Zap Energy is developing a low-cost, compact, scalable fusion energy technology. Based on a unique physics approach called the sheared-flow-stabilized Z pinch, Zap’s technology confines and compresses plasma without superconducting magnets or powerful lasers, removing many of fusion’s biggest obstacles. (Fusion is the opposite of fission, which splits atoms apart and leaves radioactive waste that lasts generations.)
